Rediscovering the Imaginal Realm through Ancient Spiritual Practices & Modern Psychology
Something has been lost. This book is about finding it again.
A new book by Charles J. Morris, PhD. Enter your email below and I will let you know when it's available.
Something has gone missing from modern life. We have rationality and technology in abundance, but many people move through the world feeling that it has been drained of meaning, stripped of mystery, cut off from a sense of the sacred.
Practical Re-Enchantment is a rigorous, readable, and deeply personal exploration of what was lost and how to begin to find it again. Drawing on the Islamic mysticism of Henry Corbin, the depth psychology of Carl Jung and James Hillman, and the Tibetan Tantric Buddhist practices I have worked with for twenty years, I argue that the imagination is the bridge between the world we have and the world we sense is possible.
This is not a book of spiritual bypassing. It is a call to do the harder, more rewarding work of re-enchantment: living an inner life that is psychologically honest, symbolically rich, and genuinely alive.
“Perhaps you consider yourself spiritual, yet have an ambivalent relationship to the concept of religion. Perhaps you have explored Eastern traditions, whether at your local Buddhist centre or through your mindfulness app, but find that those practices can only go so far. Perhaps you appreciate a psychological perspective, but are unclear on how that fits with more spiritual pursuits. Perhaps you somehow know that there is a hidden, magical dimension to life that seems to reveal itself all too infrequently.”
